Blanchard Institute (BI) is a US based non-profit organisation established by Ken and Margie Blanchard. An offshoot of the Blanchard Foundation, which was established in 1985, Blanchard Institute remains dedicated to reaching young people before they enter the workforce. It’s Ken and Margie’s legacy—their gift to the world.
Blanchard Institute has exclusive permission to use Blanchard’s content and intellectual property to adapt and tailor leadership training programs for youth, without any charge to the students, teachers, facilitators, parents, schools, or organisations involved.
Young leaders shouldn’t have to wait until they're adults to learn to lead themselves through life’s inevitable challenges. That’s where we come in! Student Self Leadership teaches learners to overcome barriers and persevere against life’s challenges—and lead others to do the same.
Student Self Leadership is for young adults 14 to 18 years old who want to:
The benefits of Student Self Leadership are endless! By completing our course, students will walk away with:
The Blanchard Institute is focused on leadership training for students aged 14 – 18 years to teach the mindset and skillset of a self-leader. We’ve taken what we know has worked best in the corporate world and adapted the content for young adults. Students explore how to take responsibility, communicate better, gain confidence, and set clear goals. Additionally, students who complete the class requirements earn a digital credential—perfect for adding to resumes and online portfolios.
Presently in Aotearoa and the Pacific Islands, students (and champions) are eligible to enrol in the globally-run Student Self Leadership Collaborative Online course.
Blanchard Aotearoa New Zealand is partnered with The Blanchard Institute so that any virtual live events are run in a suitable local timezone.
For high school students only, this course is offered three times a year. Students have around 90 minutes of self-study a week, meet virtually with a Blanchard trainer one hour a week for four weeks (about 10 hours total). Participants earn points and badges as tasks are completed, culminating in a digital credential, perfect for sharing.
For the parents, coaches, teachers, or any adult who leads or influences the high school student who is enrolled in the Student Self Leadership course, this course is offered four times a year in conjunction with the student course. Adults learn strategies to support their student in their new learning.
The Blanchard Institute aims to break down the barrier to high-quality leadership programmes. We want to provide the same high standard of Blanchard training programmes to all middle and high school students, organisations, and the people who lead them. Help us change students’ lives. Bring this programme to your community or your organisation, or learn how to facilitate it.
